The one with a year's worth of change

On this day in history...

January 30, 2010.
Charlotte is about 3 weeks gestation. She is a ball of cells the size of a poppy seed and is traveling toward my uterus.

January 30, 2011.
Charlotte is 3 and a half months old. She weighs 13lbs, can sit unsupported for a short period of time, grabs objects with both hands, and is a happy little girl.

Amazing what difference one year can make!

The one with a happy little Ladybird

I've been wanting to get something ladybug-related for Charlotte just to incorporate her fetal nickname (even though it was after Ladybird Johnson and not really the bug). We found these jammies at Costco and I had to get them. We have them now in a 3 month size and a 6 month size :)

Nomnomnom I love my fingers!!

The one with the three month update!

Remember how I said that 6 weeks was supposed to be one of those "magic" numbers where things just get better and better? Well, apparently the same goes for the 3 month mark. And here we are!

Charlotte turned 3 months old today. The fourth trimester is officially over!

To celebrate turning 3 months old, Charlotte decided to stay up late and have her own little party last night. Ergh...

In the last month, she has gotten so much bigger and stronger! We had her 3 month checkup with the doctor today. Her head grew an inch and a quarter (she's now in the 50th percentile), she grew two inches in length (60th percentile), and I think she was 11lbs 10oz (30th percentile). Her hair is growing in longer and thicker - she hardly has any weird bald spots anymore! I still like putting pretty headbands on her, though ;)

As I posted last time, she's been rolling a bit. She still doesn't do it often, but she can and that's what's most important. She tries REALLY hard to roll from her back onto her belly. She gets about 3/4 of the way there but just can't get all the way over. The other day, she tried using her tongue as leverage to get the rest of her body over. I don't think I've ever laughed at her as hard as I did in that moment. Hey, at least she's creative.

She's been holding her head and her torso very steady, so we've been putting her in her new exersaucer to play. She LOVES it. I don't think I've ever seen her so happy with a plaything before. She smiles and talks and grabs all the toys. We've even noticed her studying her hands more while she's in there. She'll stare at her hand intently, open it, and watch while she grasps or attempts to grasp something. I think she's learning that she has control over it. It's very cool to watch!

Studying the toys in her exersaucer

Over the last couple of days, I've been working on finishing up her bedroom - getting all her clothes organized, finished putting in the furniture, getting the decorations up, etc. It's coming together nicely and I'm hoping that it will be all finished by the end of the month. Of course I will post pictures when it's done!

Because her room is almost finished, we've started the transition from bedside cradle to own-room-crib this week. Wednesday night was her first night sleeping in her own room. She did okay - when she was asleep, she slept well but when she woke up, she realized she was somewhere different and had a hard time getting herself back to sleep. We had to go in many a time to stick her soother back in her mouth.
Last night was worse and better at the same time. She was up super late (the "worse" part) but when she did finally go to sleep, she slept much better. She slept from about 11:30 when we finally wrestled her to sleep ;) until about 3:30 when I heard her looking for her soother. I gave it back to her and she slept for another half hour(ish) when she woke up for food. I'm not sure what time she went back to sleep after eating, but she woke up again around 8am - but not fussing or crying, just making noise in her bed. We pulled her into our bed and cuddled until about 9ish.

Today she's been a complete enigma. I have no idea what to do with her.
She's cranky. She's hungry but will only take maybe an ounce or two at a time and then wants absolutely nothing to do with the bottle. She's been sleeping almost all day and gets really angry if she gets woken up. I'd like to chalk this up to the 3 month growth spurt, but aren't babies supposed to eat more not less when they're having a growth spurt? Hmm. I mean, it's almost 4:15pm here and she's only eaten 12 and a half ounces since 4am.

Regardless of her crankpotedness today (that's totally a word), she's a pretty awesome little baby. She gets more and more interesting every day. She's generally very happy, smiley, and content.

Happy 3 months, baby girl!

The one where Limp Bizkit gets stuck in Lisa's head

We've got a rolling baby!
(It's more of a "push-myself-over-in-a-jarring-thunk" but hey, it's still rolling...)

Charlotte rolling front to back (11 weeks, 5 days / 2 months, 3 weeks)

Breath in now breath out
Hands up now hands down
Back up back up
Tell me what you're gonna do now
Keep rollin', rollin', rollin', rollin'..
